They are known by the side they present as Medial meniscus and lateral meniscus. The medial meniscus is larger than the lateral meniscus.
  • The reason behind the meniscus tear is accidental damages like sudden twist while the foot in land. Sudden pop sounds indicate the tear incident.
  • Diagnosis includes MRI scanning, Mcmurray test by the physician.
  • These tears classified as Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 according to the level of  severity
  • Treatment mainly decided according to the type of tear and place of the tear.
  • If the tear is on the red zone of the meniscus the percentage of healing is high with the RICE method, Physiotherapy.
  • If the tear in the white zone it may need meniscectomy where the tear is removed by arthroscopic surgery.
  • Symptoms include well-localized pain, restricted activity by pain like toughness in squatting, running, jumping so if one person having meniscus tear avoiding such activity will help in stopping the case worsening.
